Hello and welcome to New Hogwarts. Thank you for considering us for your Harry Potter role-playing needs. Below is a list of rules and guidelines that all members agree to upon joining the forum, so please read them carefully. They are as followed:
1.) Registration
When registering on the forum you can pick any name that you want (provided it doesn't violate the ProBoards TOS) but when making your display name please use your character's first and last name as the display name.
2.) Posting
We have no minimum word count, but please give your partner something to work with when RPing with them. If you want to do rapid fire let your partner know before hand. Everyone's posting style is different and they may not be able to keep up.
3.) Accounts
One character per account. This does not include NPCs. If you make another main after your first character please make another account for them. This will make it easier for us to sort you into the right member group as some groups can see certain parts of the site that other groups cannot.
4.) Characters
You can make as many characters as you like. Just as long as you don't exceed your own personal limit. Don't make a bunch of characters and then only use one or two. Make sure each character is active. You may create either an adult or a student. When making a student you MUST start out as a first year. No exceptions. Don't worry, each month in-game lasts only two weeks real time so your character will grow up before you know it. Be sure to attend classes to go up in year. Adults can be teachers at Hogwarts or any other job in the magical world.
5.) Activity
We have no activity checks monthly. Post as little or as much as you want to in a single day. Us here at New Hogwarts understand that life comes first. I have a life and a strict schedule I abide by everyday, so even I won't be able to be online 24/7. So don't be afraid to take an off day. Of course if you join we do expect you to be active and show interest in the site. Just don't be stressed out if you can't manage a post that day.
6.) Godmodding
Do not godmode, powerplay, or meta-game at any point during the game. Godmodding is when you play an all powerful and perfect character without any flaws or weaknesses. This is simply not how role-playing works. Please give your characters weaknesses and flaws when creating them. Also do not call hits and do not use out of character information (OOC) for your character in-game. All information your character knows must be explained in-game.
7.) Do Not Kill!
Do not kill another member's character without their expressed consent. Be sure if you do decide to kill off a character they cannot be brought back to life, as that kind of magic does not exist in the Harry Potter universe. However, they can become a ghost upon death.
8.) Original Characters Only!
New Hogwarts is an alternate reality where Harry Potter and his friends, their teachers, and their enemies the Deatheaters, never even existed. As such only original characters are allowed on the site.
9.) Face Claims!
Faces are optional and does not need to be limited to just celebrities and models. They also extend to YouTube celebrities, cartoon, anime, and video game characters. Because of how difficult it is to find faces that are the ages of 11 and so on, we will allow the use of stock images of children to be used for your first couple of years as a student. While you still may claim your regular face. If you are not able to find pictures of your chosen claim as a child, then simply use a stock photo and make it clear in your Character App that you are using one.
These rules are subject to change at any time without warning, so please check back regularly. The most important thing at New Hogwarts is to provide a fun and safe space for fans of Harry Potter and role-play, and to allow for creative freedom across all boards. And the number one thing? Have fun!
